The Pinggau and Schäffern fire brigades on the A2 in Styria had to swerve on Thursday morning to a car that was completely on fire. The driver was unharmed.
Spectacular scenes Thursday morning on the A2 towards Graz near Zöbing: A car was on fire! As the driver later stated, according to the fire department, the engine of his car suddenly “started spluttering”, he immediately drove into the emergency lane and got out, “smoke was already coming out of the front”. Within a very short time the entire vehicle was on fire.

The fire brigade of Pinggau and Schäffern were able to quickly get the fire under control – with the help of respiratory protection and extinguishing foam. Only a wreck of the car remained. The cause has not yet been clarified, a technical defect or a cable fire may have been the cause.
The A2 had to be closed for 30 minutes for the extinguishing operation and the traffic jam stretched for miles.
