A German cyclist (38) wanted to head south from Paznaun for a trip that was impossible given the current weather and snow conditions. He was not deterred by warnings, after all he had to be rescued.
On Friday, the German cycled in the Paznaun Valley towards Ischgl to ride over the Fimba Pass (2609 meters high!) to Italy and further to Turkey. Although notified by a police patrol that passing Fimba Pass is currently not possible due to the snow conditions, the man relied on his navigation app and continued towards the pass.
In the deep snow it was over
Finally, he drove along the postponed paths of the Silvretta Arena ski area in the direction of Gampenalpe and then in the direction of the valley station of the Piz Val Gronda Bahn. In the deep snow, the 38-year-old couldn’t get any further, so he made an emergency call. The Ischgl mountain rescue service, the escape police and the Alpine police were alerted. Eventually the man was recovered by the police helicopter and flown into the valley. He was unharmed and was only mildly hypothermic.
