For decades, the well-known German animal filmmaker Andreas Kieling has been traveling through the most remote areas of the world to photograph wild animals. Recently, a trip for the 63-year-old almost ended in death…
According to his own statements, the documentary maker was attacked by a bear and badly mauled while filming in the Hochkaarten. On Sunday, he published a photo showing him sitting on the ground, covered in blood, shortly after the animal was attacked. Despite this, the German bears no grudge against the predator.
“The animal only followed its instinct”
“Bears attack a week ago while shooting rare waterfowl in the High Carpathians! The bear is fine, he just followed his instincts! Things are going well again!” Kieling wrote on Facebook Sunday morning (see below), where he also posted a photo of his down jacket that had been torn open by the bear’s claws. It is not clear exactly where the attack took place.
Kieling is one of the most famous German nature filmmakers. For many years he has been publishing in numerous newspapers and major magazines such as “Geo” or “Stern”. His documentaries have won many awards. His films are broadcast worldwide on the National Geographic Channel.
Spent a lot of time with bears
“In his work he came very close to the big grizzly bears. Hardly anyone has spent as much time with the brown giants and is as familiar with their habits and idiosyncrasies as he is,” says his personal website. In the High Carpathians he clearly got too close to a bear…
