The shopping centers celebrate visitor records, events such as the Steirertage on Vienna’s Rathausplatz or the “Mailüfterl” in Stammersdorf are downright stormed. Consumerism seems great. So where is inflation making itself felt? We asked Wifo expert Markus Scheiblecker: “The savings rate has risen sharply during the Corona period. 2023 is the first normal year.”
Although times are still uncertain due to inflation and the like, the labor market and general mood have improved. “When you go out, you just drink one less beer,” says the expert.
