On Thursday evening, the residents of seven houses in Thumersbach (sub-municipality of Zell am See) had to leave the buildings for safety reasons. The slopes in the Kendlergraben area are in motion after the heavy rainfall.
“The safety of the residents has the highest priority,” says civil protection officer Manfred Höger. Work has been going on for days to secure the slopes, but they are still moving. The residents of about 30 other buildings were asked through loudspeakers to spend the night on the upper floors.
Firefighters in action
The fire brigade, experts in the field of torrent and avalanche control and the district administration are on site. The situation is constantly monitored and efforts are made to stabilize the slopes.
According to the state, the evacuees are staying with friends and relatives.
