Unnoticed by the majority of the population, prison guards in Austria’s 28 prisons watch over criminals, some of them dangerous, 24 hours a day, risking their lives in the process. An important contribution to society that offers good conditions and remuneration, you would think. But officials across the country have been rumbling for quite some time.
Guaranteed anonymity, the “Krone” asked current and former officials in the country how they are doing in their demanding jobs. The conclusion is sobering. The “bad mood” is said to be “ubiquitous”. This is more “the order of the day” than an exception.
