On Thursday, the residents of seven houses in Thumersbach (Zell am See district) had to leave their homes for safety reasons. They were allowed back into their homes on Friday. However, the situation continues to be monitored.
Due to the heavy rainfall in the Thumersbach district of Zell, the slopes in the Kendlergraben started to move. Seven homes were evacuated yesterday for safety reasons. Residents were temporarily allowed back into their homes on Friday morning.
“Keep an eye on the location”
After inspecting the site during the morning, Torrent and Avalanche Control (WLV) experts and state geologist Gerald Valentin were able to clear everything. Residents can stay in their homes.
Decisive again’
Settlements of the terrain have been observed in the Kendlergraben since 2019. “The slope movements have now slowed down considerably after the end of the precipitation. At the moment there is no immediate danger for the residents,” says state geologist Valentin. He adds: “Trees are now being removed from the upper part to prevent blockages. The retention basins are emptied. As long as there is no more heavy rainfall, there is no immediate danger to the settlement area for the time being.”
