The 77-year-old from the Leibnitz district was mowing his yard shortly before noon on Friday. A steep section of pasture was the pensioner’s downfall: the ride-on mower began to lurch, suddenly tip over to the left, roll over several times and start to burn! According to initial information, the Styrian suffered severe burns.
Fortunately, a neighbor noticed the heavy smoke, reacted immediately, rushed to help the victim and called emergency services. The 77-year-old would not respond for the time being and, according to initial information, suffered serious burns. He received first aid from the Red Cross and an emergency doctor from the Christophorus rescue helicopter and was flown to Graz Regional Hospital with serious injuries.
18 emergency services from the fire brigade of St. Andrä/Höch extinguished the lawnmower tractor that had caught fire. The equipment is a total loss. So far there are no indications of third party debts.
