Eighteen escaped water buffaloes have destroyed the garden and swimming pool of a couple in England. The two discovered the animals, each weighing 600 kilograms, in the morning and called the fire brigade. However, she did not believe them at first.
“She (the resident, note) called 911 – but the fire brigade said they weren’t kidding. It took a lot of persuasion to get them to take us seriously,” Andy Smith told the Guardian newspaper. His partner was making tea when she saw eight water buffaloes in the pool.
Surveillance camera footage clarified the incident. Accordingly, the buffalo wandered into the yard early in the morning. One stepped on the pool cover and fell into the water. Then seven more animals jumped in. The clear water turned into a muddy broth. “This pool was our retirement luxury. It was earned with a lot of sweat and effort, but after the buffalo swam in it, it leaked and was useless,” Smith said.
Fire department came with owner
When firefighters finally arrived, the animal’s owner, a farmer, was with them. The animals had escaped him through a broken electric fence. Together they managed to catch her unharmed. The incident happened in July, but The Guardian did not report it until Saturday.
Good news for the couple: the damage to the garden and swimming pool of about £ 25,000 (28,788.58 euros) has now been taken over – with some delay – by an insurer.
