On the way to the Kitzbüheler Horn in the Tyrolean lowlands, a snow field was fatal for two German hikers on Saturday. They fell 200 meters through a rocky gully and suffered serious injuries.
The German couple – a 49-year-old man and a 45-year-old woman – wanted to hike on the St. Johann side of the Kitzbüheler Horn on Saturday morning. According to the police, the devastating accident happened around 11:30 am above the Stanglalm.
Snow loosened
When crossing a snowfield or a snowy gully, snow came loose or the couple slipped. As a result, the two fell about 200 meters into the trench and were seriously injured.
Two rescue helicopters rescued the victims with the rope and flew them to the clinic in Innsbruck. In addition to the helicopters, the mountain rescue service St. Johann and the Alpine Police were also deployed.
