On Sunday afternoon, the large return traffic after the holiday started. The Tauernautobahn (A10) in Salzburg and the Fernpassstraße (B179) in Tyrol were the hardest hit. Progress on the Brennerautobahn (A13) was slow on a stretch of about five kilometers between Matrei-Steinach and Schönberg-Stubaital.
Some serious accidents caused traffic jams, for example on the Nord/Weinviertel Autobahn (A5) in the area of the Drasenhofen ring road and on the West Autobahn (A1) between St. Christophen and the St. Pölten interchange and then also between St. Pölten Süd and Loosdorf, where the drivers had to wait about 45 minutes.
Gutensteiner Straße (B21) had to be closed at Untermitterbach after a serious motorcycle accident.
The ÖAMTC traffic experts call on all road users to drive forward and to think about the rescue lane in the event of an accident on the highway.
