American pop singer Janet Jackson has auctioned off more than 800 items from her personal collection of costumes, jewelry, trophies and other items. Thousands of collectors and fans from around the world are bidding online and by phone. A portion of the proceeds will go to a children’s charity.
The highlight of the auction on Sunday (local time) in New York was her silver-colored Aston Martin Vanquish, model year 2003. The British sports car with black leather seats raised more than 92,000 dollars (about 85,000 euros), the auction house Julien’s Auctions announced.
Outfits, microphone and pinstripe jacket are up for auction
The white outfit and bikini top the singer wore with her brother Michael Jackson in the 1995 video for “Scream” grossed just under $32,000 out of an estimated $2,000.
A pinstripe jacket from Jackson’s 1989 “Alright” music video fetched a whopping $25,000, a crystal-encrusted Sennheiser microphone fetched just under $20,000.
Jackson, who had become one of the most successful pop and soul singers in the world with albums like “Control” (1986) and “Janet” (1993), last released the album “Unbreakable” in 2015. Jackson kicked off their “Together Again” tour in Florida. She turned 57 last Tuesday.
