Trentino-South Tyrol – bear hunt: secret witnesses, cancellations, wrong tracks

Date:

After the death of a 26-year-old jogger in Trentino-Alto Adige, things spiral out of control: animal rights activists offer dubious reports and witnesses, the dead man’s family is pursued, strangers go astray and holidaymakers cancel their stays for fear of hordes of bears – a lousy game of bear friends and bear opponents.

Not the bear JJ4 alias Gaia would have killed the jogger Andrea Papi during an encounter in the forest, but as reported an unknown male specimen. Now animal protection organizations conjure up an ominous witness who would know more than anyone else. The statement letter has been received by authorities in Trento, responsible for the bear’s still-suspended shooting warrant.
