We cannot afford to cancel, because this region lives from agriculture and tourism,” said Tourism Minister Daniela Santanchè.
The minister announced a promotional campaign for Emilia-Romagna in key markets such as Austria, Germany, France and Switzerland.

“We need to make it clear to people that Emilia Romagna is ready to welcome holidaymakers. It is by no means true that this region is under water as a holiday area,” said the minister.

The Italian government wants to apply for access to the EU Solidarity Fund to support the flooded areas. Several EU countries have pledged their assistance under the so-called EU civil protection procedure.
Austria supplies pumping equipment
Austria, Germany, France, Slovakia, Slovenia, Romania, Poland and Bulgaria supplied pumping equipment. Last week’s violent storms killed 15 people and brought about 25,000 to safety.
