Many use the Pentecost weekend for a short holiday by the sea. That is why there was a waiting time of about an hour for the Karawanken tunnel in Carinthia on Saturday. There was also a backlog of no less than 26 kilometers on the Tauernautobahn (A10) in Salzburg.
Pentecost journeys are rolling – and slowly. Drivers have to wait almost an hour for the Karawanken tunnel on their way to the Adriatic Sea. Many Germans and Austrians are now attracted to the sea. You can still avoid the Wurzenpass and the Loiblpass without long waiting times. Otherwise there are few alternatives.
80,000 visitors expected in Lignano
Police officers from Carinthia will also be on duty again in Lignano Sabbiadoro, as 80,000 visitors, including an estimated 20,000 Austrians, will be celebrating there over the weekend. Tarvisio is also not the best place for walking on a Saturday: some roads are closed due to the Giro d’Italia.
Numerous missions and malfunctions
Since Friday 22:00 there is block handling and convoy traffic on the A10 towards Villach for the Ofenauer- and Reit tunnel and for the St. Michael toll station. The ÖAMTC also reported numerous operations and minor breakdowns on the section between Flachau and Flachauwinkl following a rear-end collision. In Tyrol, the Fernpass section (B179) from Füssen to Heiterwang also suffered from traffic jams.
