A 23-year-old reported to the police on Saturday evening after she had been abused by her parents for years in an apartment in Vienna-Döbling. The parents have been in custody ever since, police said.
The person concerned must have suffered from the strict regime of her parents from childhood and must have experienced violence. She would have been locked in the apartment. According to police spokesman Philipp Haßlinger, she has been regularly beaten and tortured for about ten years.
Torn earlobe earrings as punishment
Verbal humiliations were apparently the order of the day. The father would have torn earrings from the earlobe of the girl or young woman as punishment or punished the daughter with a belt if she did not meet his standards and values.
Loan taken under threat
Her parents also forced her to take out loans from a bank. An arrest warrant was then issued for the parents. The victim’s parents, a 53-year-old and a 52-year-old, were transferred to a prison after questioning by the criminal investigation department.
“It cannot be ruled out that religious and philosophical backgrounds played a role,” says Hasslinger. The parents are formally stateless, but originally from Afghanistan. They have not confessed and have been arrested on suspicion of serious extortion, deprivation of liberty, severe coercion and persistent violence.
The 23-year-old is now in a women’s shelter.
