A man was killed in an explosion at an industrial hall in Gevelsberg near Wuppertal in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. Three other employees suffered smoke inhalation.
The fatally injured man was found by the fire service on Saturday with serious burns directly at the entrance of the company, the fire service announced on Sunday. He later succumbed to his injuries in hospital.
During demolition work there was an explosion when hydraulic oil first caught fire on a heavy impact and then a chain reaction followed. The fire service was on site with 75 emergency services.
A structural engineer classified the industrial hall as an acute risk of collapse after the explosion. Due to the force of the explosion, parts of the roofing had shifted and part of a wall had collapsed.
