Hour long search – crash drunk accident driver ran away in panic

Date:

The man fled into the woods after a collision in the Oberwart district (Burgenland) and was found at home by the police after hours of searching. The alcohol test showed more than 1.2 promille.

Exactly on his 60th birthday, a driver from the Oberwart district had a serious accident. Before the Whitsun weekend, the jubilee was on the B50 around 1:30 p.m. when he lost control of the wheel in Mariasdorf and went off the road. It overturned the car and stopped on the passenger side. Alerted helpers from the rescue service and a courageous driver managed to rescue the injured person from the wreckage.

Track lost
“The man was clearly in shock. He jumped up, sauntered down the street and then suddenly ran into the woods,” the emergency services report. Firefighters immediately tried to retrieve the driver who had fled the accident. But the pursuers soon lost his trail and the 60-year-old disappeared in the dense undergrowth.

A large-scale search was launched. “We had to react quickly. It is not excluded that the man was seriously injured, “said the emergency services. Several police patrols went in search of the driver of the accident, supported from the air by a helicopter team from the Ministry of the Interior. Only when officers appeared a second time at the car owner’s home address did the wanted person open the door.

A deer was to blame
He had to avoid a deer, the jubilee explained as the cause of his accident. He only suffered abrasions and minor injuries to his ribs, he explained. An alcohol test, on the other hand, showed more than 1.2 promille in the blood! Reports were reimbursed.

The driver risks a hefty fine.
