The son of Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida has lost his job as political secretary after throwing a party at his father’s official residence. The progeny Shotaro Kishida not only celebrated there, but also took pictures at symbolically important places. Among other things, the guests reenacted a press conference.
At first the head of government, with a reprimand to the party-loving son, thought the matter was over. It was said that Kishida had no intention of releasing his offspring. But last week, photos emerged showing the political secretary partying with relatives and pressure on the prime minister mounted.
Gast lay down on symbolically important stairs
One of the photos showed the partygoers on the stairs where the cabinet was presented. One guest even had his picture taken lying on the red carpet. Now there were consequences: his son’s behavior was “inappropriate for a political secretary” and it had been decided to “replace him,” the prime minister told journalists on Monday.
Shotaro Kishida will step down on June 1, the prime minister added. Prime Minister Kishida had previously been criticized for his son traveling across Europe in his official car to buy gifts for ministers.
Kishida recently fired four ministers in just three months. Cabinet members were fired for having financial irregularities or ties to the controversial Unification Church.
