18 years after the murder of a Georgian on the street in Graz, a compatriot has now been arrested in Germany who is a suspect. The 52-year-old is said to have killed a 29-year-old in Graz in 2005 with a stab to the heart. A fingerprint scan confirmed the identity of the fugitive.
The 52-year-old’s 18-year-old flight ended at Dortmund Airport four days ago. As the German authorities announced on Tuesday, the man arrived at the airport on a flight from Kutaisi in Georgia on Friday evening. The Georgian would have been very nervous at passport control. With good reason: the officials found out that the man was wanted on the basis of an international arrest warrant.
Theft as a possible motive
In June 2005, the suspect allegedly stabbed a 29-year-old in the heart with a pocket knife in front of an asylum seekers’ center on Vinzenz-Muchitsch-Strasse and killed him. The bloody deed was preceded by a dispute about the theft of 2,000 euros.
The murder suspect has been arrested by the German police and will be brought before the competent investigating judge.
