“We were together for 60 years, even as students we shared a snack,” an elderly but mentally fit woman in a wheelchair tells the Graz Criminal Court judge. The elderly woman continues to fight back tears.
‘I could walk before the accident’
At the beginning of December last year, her 81-year-old husband was killed in a terrible accident, in which the woman was seriously injured. “Before the accident I only used the wheelchair occasionally, I could still walk a lot with sticks,” says the Styrian. Today she needs a nurse, can’t get up and can’t use her left hand.
How did this blow of fate come about? It was a rainy evening in a village north of Graz. The man pushed his wife across the street in a wheelchair.
