Against DeSantis – Trump’s “cute” trump card in the US election campaign

Date:

Entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy wants to become president of the US, is a fan of ex-head of state Donald Trump and fishes in Ron DeSantis’ voter pool. Trump still likes it.

With DeSantis entering the presidential race, the mudslinging against Donald Trump has officially begun. Tipping the scales in the duel between Florida’s governor and ex-president could well be played by someone two-thirds of citizens have never heard of. Vivek Ramaswamy is a political newcomer and made his millions in the pharmaceutical industry. Still, political insiders see the 37-year-old as Trump’s greatest asset.

Ramaswany was the first to condemn Trump’s conviction
The US-born son of Indian immigrants has been making the rounds on conservative channels, gleefully brandishing the ‘anti-Woke’ club. Moreover, Ramaswamy delights the MAGA world as the tireless defender of his rival Trump. He was the first to condemn his arrest in New York as “a politically motivated prosecution that marks a black mark in our history”. The father of two has the talent to convey even the hardest right-wing populist statements like a nice intellectual. This has earned him the public goodwill of the man who otherwise bombards his political opponents with verbal cannonballs and insults. On his Truth Social, Trump wrote, “What I love about Vivek is that he has nothing but good things to say about President Trump! I’m glad he’s doing so well!”

Trump and Ramaswamy secretly met for dinner at Trump’s golf club in New Jersey in the summer of 2021. At that point, a silent alliance is said to have been forged. Now he’s using it against DeSantis. Ramaswamy has declared war on “secular religions” such as environmental protection or LGTB rights and wants to re-enshrine “faith, patriotism and hard work” in American society. It is precisely such political issues that DeSantis hopes to use to counter Trump’s cult of personality.

Trump’s goodwill definitely has limits
According to the latest polls, Ramaswamy has between four and five percent of Republican voters behind him – more than household names like former governor Chris Christie or Tim Scott, the only black Republican in the Senate. Political pundits are confident that Ramaswamy is for the most part fishing voters away from DeSantis. Most recently, he attacked the governor of Florida as “incapable of having independent thoughts.” An attack that could have come from Trump’s mouth.

Officially, Ramaswamy wants to become president himself. But unofficially, many believe the young conservative star is hoping for a good position in a Trump administration – preferably as vice president. However, the latter is more than unlikely. His nickname in the Trump camp should therefore also be “Ambassador Ramaswamy”. Trump’s goodwill will have limits. He is still said to find the young savage’s self-funded outsider campaign “adorable”. But alas, Ramaswamy is rising in the polls to become a real competitor or even number 2. A Republican insider is under no illusions: “Then Trump will point his guns at Vivek without batting an eyelid and attack mercilessly.”
