Kiev: “Backup” – Moscow: Ukrainian Donetsk offensive thwarted

Date:

While the Ukrainian army sees itself advancing around the city of Bakhmut, which is still under fire, the Kremlin considers the Ukrainian offensive in the Donetsk region a failure. The enemy had failed in their mission. The Ukrainian armed forces have lost more than 250 servicemen, the defense ministry spokesman in Moscow stressed.

According to Moscow, Ukraine opened its offensive on Sunday with six battalions of mechanized infantry and two battalions of tanks. “The enemy’s goal was to break through our defenses on the part of the frontline they considered most vulnerable,” Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said, according to the state news agency TASS. This was just foiled. The commander of the Ukrainian ground forces, Olexandr Syrskyj, sounded very different. Looking at Bakhmut, he insisted, “We’re moving on.” But Syrskyj did not comment on what happened in the south of Donetsk Oblast.

The Russian field commander also disagrees
The information could not be independently verified. However, a Russian field commander stated that the enemy has been “successfully escorted” so far. According to commander Alexander Chodakowski, the attacks west of Wuhledar are a limited tactical operation by the Ukrainians. Initially, the Ukrainian troops gave the impression that they were increasing the pressure on the Velika Novosilka front, where they already broke through on Sunday.

Meanwhile, a group of raiders advanced almost unnoticed further east near the village of Nowodonetske. “By traditionally disrupting radio communications, the enemy managed to put us in a difficult position,” Chodakowski wrote. The situation is moving. Since 2014, the Russian has led the “Vostok” brigade of separatists in the Donbass region, which has been part of the Russian National Guard since the beginning of the war.

Central Russia: Drones crash on the highway
However, there were also hostilities in Russia itself. The governor of the border area with Belgorod, Vyacheslav Gladkov, confirmed the fighting in the village of Novaya Tavolshanka on Sunday night. During a drone strike, an energy system also caught fire. There were no injuries. In addition, there may have been a drone attack on central Russia.

Two drones fell on a highway in the Kaluga region (see video above), Governor Vladislav Shapsha said on Twitter Monday. The incident happened about 300 kilometers west of Moscow.
