Did a stowaway take a travel bag? A scorpion suddenly crawled around in a workshop in Traunstein. The eight-legged friend is now housed in the Salzburg reptile zoo “World of Poisons”.
How the poisonous eight-legged friend ended up there is not clear. One thing is certain: recently a scorpion crawled through a workshop in Traunstein. The owner was able to get hold of the animal after the initial fright. The female scorpion has now found a new home in the Salzburg reptile zoo “World of Poisons”. “We were very happy to take the little one in,” laughs boss Nils Kley.
The animal, which is only a few centimeters in size, is a “European scorpion”. Its stinger is venomous but not deadly. “It hurts like a bee sting, but the animals never really sting,” says Kley.
Poisonous eight-legged was in a box full of fruit
Much more dangerous and larger is another inhabitant of the poisonous mini-zoo. The “Judean Scorpio” has long been at home in the “World of Poisons”. “He came to us from the health food store in Bad Reichenhall. It was sitting there in a box full of Middle Eastern grapefruits,” says Kley. He christened the eight-legged friend “Brian”.
His newest scorpion has no name yet. “Let us know if you think of something suitable,” says the zoo’s boss.
How should you react if you encounter a scorpion in your own four walls? Kley: “It is best to put a glass over it. Scorpions with thick claws and thin tails are relatively harmless. But animals with thin claws and thick tails are.”
