In the heart of Wattens in the Tyrolean district of Innsbruck-Land, an 86-year-old Tyrolean runs Austria’s only typewriter museum. The “Krone” visited and marveled at the specimens from all over the world. One from China has 2500 characters but only one key.
Shortly after the turn of the 21st century, with the advent of the Internet and the advent of computers in almost every home, the last typewriter manufacturers closed forever. In 1936 – shortly before the outbreak of the Second World War – writing instruments were in their heyday. In this year the Tyrolean Jörg Thien saw the light of day. In March 1953 he decided to train as an office machine mechanic.
