Turkish authorities have arrested a 16-year-old for drawing a thin mustache on a campaign poster for President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. In addition to the Hitler beard, the boy is said to have left offensive comments.
According to reports from several media outlets close to the opposition, the young man was arrested in the southern Turkish city of Mersin after reviewing surveillance cameras. When questioned at his home, the 16-year-old admitted that he dyed the beard but did not write the comments. According to Halk TV, prosecutors found the teen had “insulted the president” and he was taken to a nearby juvenile facility.
Erdogan won the second round for the presidency on May 28. According to the Ministry of Justice, “insulting the president” is one of the most common crimes in Turkey. In the past year alone, there were 16,753 guilty pleas for this crime.
