Due to the heavy rainfall, numerous firefighting operations and a mood of alarm have been triggered in large parts of Styria since Thursday. On Friday afternoon, violent thunderstorms once again swept over Graz and huge amounts of hail fell in Straden in southern Styria.
The next storm front reached Graz on Friday afternoon and caused heavy precipitation. Heavy showers fell again in the south of Styria.
Hailstorms in Schwabau
Bad Radkersburg was not as heavy as Thursday, but the heavy rain and thunderstorms led to small-scale flooding, especially in Straden and St. Peter am Ottersbach, which the emergency services claimed. But that’s not all: huge hailstorms turned the streets in Schwabau near Straden into a “snow track”. The cleanup work is still in progress.
Floods in Gnas
In Gnas, the individual neighborhoods were also massively affected by flooding on Friday evening, in Thien the water was about a meter high. At this time, the Gnasbach is still rising and is already partly overflowing its banks.
In order to prevent further flooding as much as possible, sandbags are being erected – 150 firefighters are currently deployed in the Feldbach area in case of storms. The L218 and L281 were partially blocked by flooding and silting.
