Former US Attorney General William Barr expects his political end if he confirms charges against ex-President Donald Trump in the US classified documents affair. “If even half of it is true, then he’s done,” Barr said.
The former Minister of Justice was shocked by the explosiveness and the amount of documents. “I think the allegations under the Espionage Act that he deliberately withheld those documents are solid.”
Trump calls Barr a ‘cowardly pig’
Trump immediately responded to his former attorney general’s comments. In a social media post on his platform Truth Social, he called Barr a “lazy” and “weak” attorney general. Trump accused Barr of making the remarks out of irritation and claimed it was misinformation. “Turn off Fox News when that cowardly pig is on the air.”
Affair over classified documents
According to the indictment, published on Friday, Trump allegedly withheld confidential and top secret documents about the US nuclear program and about possible US weaknesses in an attack. The Republican is said to have shown another a document from the Defense Department describing a plan of attack against another country.
Other material comes from secret services such as the CIA and NSA. Trump is also accused of obstruction of justice. According to previous statements, he is due to appear in court in Florida on Tuesday.
