Date:

A 58-year-old man is said to be responsible for 18 fires in his hometown of Mödling. According to the police, meadows, desolate straw and hedges were set on fire. The series, which had lasted since February 14, 2022, ended abruptly on April 10 of the previous year. Now, however, the fire devil could be caught.

In a new fire this year on March 21 at the figure pond in Guntramsdorf, the Mödlinger, who had been reported by the police for a similar crime, was caught. After initial denials, he confessed.

Garbage collected and burned
The 58-year-old revealed that he collected rubbish at the figure pond, which he lit with a lighter to “remove” it. The police officers then notified the National Criminal Investigation Service of Lower Austria, which led the investigation into the series of fires.

The crimes in Mödling, Maria Enzersdorf, Guntramsdorf and Gumpoldskirchen caused property damage in the four-figure range, no one was injured. The man is reported to the public prosecutor’s office in Wiener Neustadt.
