The result is sobering: just under two-thirds of Austrians use a deodorant or antiperspirant every day. According to the research, women are more avid users than men.
At 71.5 percent, the proportion of women who use deodorant on a daily basis is much higher than that of men at 57.7 percent.
Pandemic caused decline in personal care products
Sweating is a natural phenomenon to maintain body temperature. The best way to get rid of the body odor that can arise is to shower or wash regularly. Many people also use deodorants and similar products from the cosmetics industry. According to market research data from GfK, the buyer reach for deodorants increased by 1.2 percentage points in 2022 compared to the previous year. During the corona pandemic, there were declines in many personal care products.
Fragrance and effect as the most important criteria
By type of application, sprays are the most popular at 60.4 percent, followed by roll-ons (42.3 percent), sticks (17.4 percent) and creams (nine percent), according to Marketagent in a survey of 1,000 people aged 14 to 75 year found out. The smell of the product (65 percent) and the reliable effect (57.7 percent) are considered particularly important. A low price (26.1 percent) and product design (4.7 percent) play a minor role.
About 58 percent of those surveyed only use deodorants, about 6.3 percent only use antiperspirants: the deodorants are said to inhibit bacteria, antiperspirants with aluminum salts also inhibit sweat production, both of which are intended to inhibit odor development. Another 15.5 percent use both types of products, 13 percent neither, the rest were unsure when asked.
