Retired Steyr Werner Lidlbauer (62) is desperate. Municipal utilities in Steyr, Upper Austria, have nearly tripled gas tariffs since the beginning of this year.
Energy costs are rising and rising and more and more people are feeling the consequences. So is the Steyrer Werner Lidlbauer (62). “Since the beginning of the year, my provider has increased the gas price four times. Who can afford that?” he is annoyed by the “Krone”. He lives with his parents in the same house. To save costs, one floor was not heated at all last winter. Yet Lidlbauer has to pay 517 euros per month from August, at the beginning of the year that was 181 euros.
“We are also concerned”
“The energy situation is truly breathtaking, not just here in Austria, but all over Europe. The fear of our customers about affordability also worries us,” said the director of Stadtbetriebe Steyr, Peter Hochgatterer, when asked by “Krone”.
For Werner Lidlbauer, gas is not the only energy problem. He is an independent software developer, drives a lot to his customers and that also costs more money given the petrol price. “I actually only wanted to retire in two years. With the current developments, I am actually forced to retire immediately,” he says.
