13 stab wounds – defendant (28) confesses after attempted femicide

Date:

A 28-year-old had to answer Wednesday before the regional court of Wels for attempted murder. In December last year, he allegedly attacked his wife with a knife and seriously injured him in the gym where she worked. “I plead guilty. I’m glad she’s alive,” the sensible defendant said in court, refusing to answer further questions. Just before noon, the jury retired to deliberate.

According to the public prosecutor, the suspect wanted to kill his wife because she had announced that she wanted to divorce him. “I’d like to be 18 or 25 years old, but I’m not having my face taken off… I swear you’re going to experience something no one has experienced before,” he wrote to her three days before the crime. He was in rehab in Salzburg at the time, as he always struggled with alcohol and drug addiction.

Woman stabbed with knife
On December 21, he checked out with the therapist, consumed alcohol and other substances and drove to the gym in Vöcklabruck where his wife worked. There he went behind the reception and stabbed the 29-year-old 13 times with a knife he brought from Salzburg. Witnesses failed to dissuade him from her.

“Fortunately for her, the knife broke off, so she is still alive,” the prosecutor said. At the time of the crime, the suspect had drunk 1.7 promille of alcohol and other substances. In her closing speech, the prosecutor emphasized that it was not the suspect who ensured that there was no body, but only luck.

The suspect already has a criminal record
While his confession was soothing, it didn’t do much to establish the truth. He has a criminal record and acted with absolute brutality, which precludes a lenient sentence for her, with prosecutors citing 60 assaults on women in 2022, 28 of which were femicides.

retreat to prison
The defense lawyer emphasized that a confession was the main mitigating factor and that the suspect was really sorry, he had already paid 2,000 euros in damages. He had limited mental capacity at the time of the crime. Defense counsel asked the jury for a lesser sentence — a minimum of 10 years in prison — that the defendant had also “come off addiction” and that he had voluntarily entered drug rehabilitation while in prison.

The suspect confirmed his statements to the police in December in court. In it he testified that the woman scolded him, he took out the knife and she more or less ran inside. However, in a statement in April, he made a full confession.

The victim has been mentally ill since the crime
“I don’t understand how you can do something like that,” the woman said in court. Her husband had previously threatened and beaten her. “I didn’t cheat on him either,” although he constantly accused her of it. “I’m not doing well, that person broke me mentally,” she said when asked by the prosecutor. She returned to work after the incident, but suffered from panic attacks.

‘Stabbed her on tour’
“He stabbed her on tour. I can’t handle a situation like that. I’ve never seen anything like it,” said a gym witness who declined to testify in front of the defendant. A reviewer described the injuries suffered by the woman, which required surgery under general anesthesia The blade of the kitchen knife had already broken off when the suspect stabbed the woman’s torso, so they didn’t go that deep.

He stabbed with great force. Stings in the chest area are life-threatening. The knife could have broken off when the woman was stabbed in the head, but that cannot be exactly clarified.
