A vest with a mini camera, a modem with a SIM card and small earphones – a duo from Amstetten in Lower Austria would have made this equipment available to candidates for a driver’s license. This allowed the two men of Turkish descent (25, 27) to announce the correct answers from a distance.
They would have demanded up to 3,000 euros for a successfully passed exam. This was first noticed in a driving school in Innsbruck. According to an anonymous tip, the equipment was also found on a woman from the Mostviertel shortly after she passed the test. Initially she accused the two Amstettners, but during a later interrogation she denied everything.
Home search equipment
A search of the suspects brought more clarity: in addition to cash, the technical equipment that matched the accusations was also seized. The trail of the SIM cards also led to two Iraqis living in Vienna, who wanted nothing to do with complicity.
Dark figure unclear
The police assume that the group was active throughout Austria. It is not clear how large the number of unreported cases is. The Amstettner were reported, the case is before the court.
