Two people from Traunkirch became life-saving in Upper Austria on Wednesday evening. They rescued two capsized canoeists on Lake Traunsee with a boat and brought them back to the rescue bank.
A 56-year-old from the district of Gmunden heard cries for help at the Traunsee on Wednesday around 8:50 p.m. Soon after, he discovered two swimmers at the lake. One was about 100 meters, the other about 300 meters from the shore. The 56-year-old, himself a firefighter, immediately made an emergency call and warned a 35-year-old acquaintance. The two then rode off together in the 35-year-old’s boat to rescue the two swimmers and take them to shore.
Capsized with canoe
It later emerged that the two victims, a 27-year-old from the Gmunden district and a 41-year-old from the Schwaz/Tirol district, had capsized their canoe. Both were taken to the Salzkammergut Klinikum Gmunden after first aid with the rescue. The fire brigade and the Traunkirchen water rescue service were deployed with a total of about 20 men and a boat.
