Incredible, but true: a police officer (55) from Lower Austria had imposed higher sentences on drivers for years, then manipulated the organ mandates and stole more than 100,000 euros.
The 55-year-old had issued speeding tickets, but prevented the block from being printed using cardboard or the like. As a result, he was able to impose higher penalties on drivers than seemed official. The difference would have been kept cold by the policeman.
The investigations are in full swing
The police officer is said to have issued some 1,300 organ mandates annually — more than all other police departments in the district combined. The prosecutor’s office and the Federal Office for the Prevention and Combating of Corruption, which are investigating the case, estimate that the damage exceeds 100,000 euros.
The next step is to ask affected drivers about the incidents. According to police spokesman Johann Baumschlager, the officer stationed in Wiener Neustadt was temporarily suspended.
