An Esculapian snake arrived with the timber cart from Mühlviertel to a family in Wels. There her son found her. After the first shock, the primary school student responded correctly.
A family from Wels had bought and sent a load of firewood in the Mühlviertel. They received the delivery over the weekend. The son of the house – he is still in primary school – helped his parents unload the trailer on Saturday. However, when he lifted a piece of wood, he was quite shocked because something suddenly moved in the load.
The boy saw a large snake that apparently stowed away in the cargo. Horrified, he warned his parents.

Because it was initially unclear which snake it was, the adults called the fire brigade for help. Wolfgang Kletzmayr (36) was also present when the emergency services arrived. Last year he was named firefighter of the year in Wels. Since Kletzmayr is adept at handling snakes, he was able to quickly secure everything. Because the reptile was a non-venomous Aesculapian snake.
He caught them and released them into nature outside the settlement area.
