Belarus wants to take even harder action against pedophilia in the future. Namely, those who abused children should be subjected to compulsory castration.
The Belarusian Ministry of the Interior registered more than 800 child victims of sexual violence in 2022. The country now hopes for improvement with a new law.
Own algorithm
It is planned that those convicted of pedophilia will be subjected to coercive measures in addition to the regular punishment – in this case it would be chemical castration, writes the Belarusian news site Serkalo. For this they have developed their own clinical protocol, which includes an “algorithm for the treatment of pedophilia”.
The independent Russian-Latvian news portal Medusa points out that forced chemical castration of child molesters has been considered in Russia for years. The first corresponding bill was presented in 2011. However, the State Duma decided at the time that the venture was causing “unnecessary costs”.
Chemical castration
Chemical castration involves the administration of drugs that reduce the production of sex hormones to prepubescent levels. Critics warn that this step alone won’t solve the problem, as sexual assault isn’t just caused by hormonal problems. There would be many other formative experiences.
