A 28-year-old cyclist was killed in a traffic accident on the L209 between Rust and Oggau in the Eisenstadt-Umwelt district on Saturday night. According to the Burgenland State Police Directorate, a motorist called the police and reported the collision. An alcohol test on the driver of the accident was positive.
Road users noticed a small bright light on the national road towards Oggau shortly before midnight on Friday. They first found the front wheel of a bicycle before discovering a lifeless person right next to the road. Resuscitation by an emergency physician was of no avail.
The driver of the accident has reported it to the police
While the police were still investigating, the driver called the police about the accident. A damaged vehicle was found during a check at the address of the 33-year-old.
The relatives of the killed cyclist were cared for by the Red Cross Crisis Intervention Team. The police investigation into the course of the accident continued on Saturday.
