A motorcyclist was killed in an accident on the Westautobahn (A1) near St. Pölten on Sunday. The 77-year-old Frenchman was part of a group on his way to Salzburg. For unknown reasons, he suddenly crossed all three lanes and crashed into the concrete center wall.
The motorcyclist was thrown onto the road towards Vienna and was probably run over by a vehicle, the police announced on Sunday evening.
Highway closed until evenings
The accident happened around 3.15 pm near Völlerndorf, part of the municipality of Gerersdorf. All help came too late for the motorcyclist. Due to the investigation, two lanes in the direction of Salzburg were closed until 7:40 p.m. and considerable traffic jams developed.
