The firefighters were called on Sunday evening for a delicate rescue mission in Rankweil (Vorarlberg): seven ducklings were trapped in a water shaft and could not free themselves.
Playing children had noticed the constant squeaking: when trying to find out the source of the sound, they noticed the little chicks in the shaft of the power plant at the Ölz mill in Rankweil Rüggelen. There was no trace of the duck parents. The alarmed fire brigade came, climbed down the shaft with a ladder ladder and collected the seven little ones in a plastic container.
The ducklings were then returned to the mill stream at a renatured point about 100 meters away. The rescuers are confident that the cubs will find their way back to their parents.
