A father and his sons are said to have simply shot five long-eared owls in Pram (Upper Austria). The three were now in court. The verdict is not yet legally binding.
They were disturbing scenes that a 36-year-old and his same-aged girlfriend had to watch in a meadow in Pram in April this year. They happened to watch as three local hunters — a 67-year-old man and two sons, 36 and 31 — surrounded a pear tree and repeatedly fired their shotguns into the treetop. When the trio noticed the witnesses, they allegedly fled. The three had apparently wiped out an entire family of owls.
The perpetrators were identified and charged. The father and his sons had to answer in court on Wednesday. The verdicts that are not final: The father and a son each have to pay 1,200 euros because they have no income. The second son, on the other hand, has to pay 8,000 euros. In addition, all three must hand in their weapons.
