Almost firewood – old fire tower in the garden as original decoration

Date:

Not everyone has an old hose tower as “garden decoration” – but Markus Zimmerberger (55) from St. Thomas near Waizenkirchen. The IT specialist regretted that the 70-year-old extension had to be sawed down and burned and took it home: “I thought to myself, this is a cultural asset worth protecting.”

It was a coincidence: the roof of the old fire station in St. Thomas near Waizenkirchen, which was severely damaged by a hailstorm in June 2021, was removed last Friday and replaced with a new roof. They also wanted to take the opportunity to remove the old, disused wooden hose tower and use it as fuel.

The poppy seed cake was “to blame”
Municipal citizen Markus Zimmerberger (55) got wind of the dismantling and spontaneously decided to give the old snake tower a dignified “pensioner’s existence” in his garden: “I took part in the twelve-hour charity run in Prambachkirchen on Saturday and was supposed to have a cake with poppy seeds. I didn’t have any poppies in the house so I went to the local department store Across the road the fire station was being worked on I made inquiries and found out the old hose tower needs to be cut down and banned I thought to myself that’s a cultural property worth protecting and asked if I could have it.”

Woman did not veto
Zimmerberger was awarded the contract for a donation. Two local companies took care of the inexpensive transport to the garden of the proud neo-owner 500 meters away: “The tower is five and a half meters high. I set it up next to my swimming pond. He’s a real eye-catcher now,” says Zimmerberger. To his relief, his wife Brigitte didn’t veto it. “She said when we have grandchildren, it will be a great climbing frame.”
