In the Theatersommer Haag (Lower Austria), the highest discipline of psychological warfare – sexual deprivation – is brought to the stage with the premiere of “Ella, Ella”.
After the storming of the Acropolis by the women, the women, exhausted and weakened, are forced to make peace by the “Eros boycott”. As the warriors squirm in their misery, the audience is served a load of testosterone – appetizingly wrapped in ambiguous allusions, seasoned with a good pinch of humour. This makes abstinence – for a while – very nice. Interspersed with red-hot messages against war and for equal rights, Ruth Brauer-Kvam pulls all the strings for successful summer entertainment in her production.
