The district of Murau in Styria was hit by a violent thunderstorm on Friday. Rain showers, hail and thunderstorms caused flooding. Six fire brigades worked tirelessly.
The siren sounded the alarm when 65 liters of rain per square kilometer descended in the Murau district in a very short time. Hail was also mixed. That was too much for slopes and fields. The consequences were several damaged areas, mudslides, landslides and flooded basements.
Several roads were impassable for a long time and therefore closed. Fortunately, no one was injured in the extreme storm.
Six fire brigades in action
In total, the fire brigades of Schöder, Ranten, Krakaudorf, Feistritz, St. Peter am Kammersberg and Murau were deployed with 150 firefighters.
Restaurants are also affected
Cranes, excavators and vehicles from the municipality were also on site on Saturday evening to repair the damage as quickly as possible. Catering establishments were also affected, which are currently almost fully booked due to Formula 1 in nearby Spielberg. The damage was inspected on Saturday morning and further measures have been initiated.
