In the Italian city of Trieste, bars are not allowed to play music after midnight on Fridays, Saturdays and public holidays. Milan’s city council now also wants to adopt a package to regulate nightlife. This is to prevent complaints from citizens about noise nuisance.
The city of Trieste has strict rules. According to a new regulation from the city council, pubs are no longer allowed to play music after midnight on Fridays, Saturdays and before public holidays. On other days of the week, the music must be turned off from 10:30 p.m. Anyone who violates the rules can count on fines or, in the worst case, revocation of the license for their own restaurant.
In addition, the number of music events that public entities are allowed to organize with a special permit will be reduced from 14 days to 6 per year. Penalties for violations in this area will also be increased.
More nightlife in Milan
In the metropolis of Milan, the city council is currently planning a package to regulate nightlife. This is necessary because the entertainment districts have grown to about 15 in recent years, says city security council member Marco Granelli. A scheme for bars is planned, which includes limited new openings in certain neighbourhoods.
The new package is intended to prevent citizens from complaining about noise nuisance from nightlife venues in the city centre. The city of Brescia was recently ordered to pay 50,000 euros in damages to a couple who complained about health damage caused by the noise.
