Franz Kneissl III knows no fear of contact. Growing up in Kufstein, where his grandfather produced the first series of skis in 1919, his father developed the legendary Kneissl “White Star” and thus racing skis with which legends such as Karl Schranz, Leonhard Stock or Franz Klammer rode to victories. With the “Radkrone”, the Tyrolean talked about the family history, his two world champion titles in the powerboat, how the production of the Kneissl e-bikes came about and why a trophy instead of the Kneissl star adorns the bikes.
The family history of the former Austrian world brand Kneissl begins in 1861. “At that time my grandfather Franz Kneissl I started producing skis”, Franz Kneissl III recalls. “The know-how for this did not yet exist in Austria at the time, so my grandfather went to Norway to learn how to make skis.” “The aim was to build touring skis for the mountain troops to defend the Alps,” says Kneissl: “My grandfather earned well at the time and could invest the money in the production of skis.”
