Waiting for will – Silvio Berlusconi’s villa becomes a museum

Date:

The Villa San Martino in Arcore near Milan, since 1974 the residence of the late Italian former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, is being converted into a museum. The villa, built in the 18th century, with its extensive garden, housing more than 20,000 paintings, will be made accessible to visitors.

The Roman daily Corriere della Sera reported that the museum is intended to present Berlusconi’s political and economic achievements, as well as the history of his party, Forza Italia. Photos and videos from his life, his piano and posters from his election campaigns are shown. Berlusconi’s five children planned the museum as a kind of memorial.

The plan is to set up a scientific committee that will take care of the decoration of the museum. The administration of the new museum will be taken over by Berlusconi’s partner, the parliamentarian Marta Fascina, who currently lives in the villa.

Waiting anxiously for the will
The will of former Prime Minister Berlusconi will be opened this week in Milan. The assets of the heirs and potential beneficiaries mentioned by Berlusconi are enormous and include companies, villas, houses, boats, works of art and private investments.

Assets worth billions of euros
According to estimates, the assets are worth around four billion euros. A particular point of attention is the distribution of the shares in the parent company Fininvest, in which Silvio Berlusconi had a 61 percent interest. It is expected that these shares will be divided among the patriarch’s five children.

The former prime minister also leaves a considerable legacy politically. Ruling party Forza Italia, dominated by Berlusconi, plans to appoint a new party leader in the coming weeks. Party coordinator and foreign minister Antonio Tajani is expected to be appointed.
