An alleged “employee of the prosecutor’s office” robbed a particularly gullible 81-year-old pensioner from Vienna of her belongings on Thursday. With the daughter trick, he got the lady to hand over cash and even gold bars. The amount of damage is in the five-figure range.
The unknown male scammer called the 81-year-old woman from Vienna on Thursday at 5 p.m. and pretended to be an employee of the public prosecutor’s office. Their daughter was arrested and could only be released if she gave up her entire fortune.
Fearing for her daughter, the woman finally agreed and handed over the swindler a considerable sum of money and even whole bars of gold. With this scam, the criminal persuaded the lady to give him a five-figure sum.
It’s best to hang up
The Viennese police are convinced that further similar incidents can only be prevented through intensive educational work and prevention. Authorities urgently warn to end suspicious calls immediately, not to disclose details of family or financial circumstances and to immediately notify the police.
