A 31-year-old alcoholic entered the opposite lane in the Weinviertel on the B46 between Gaweinstal and Mistelbach (Lower Austria) on Friday evening and collided with a car. The drunk driver and two occupants of the other car were seriously injured, a 16-year-old died in hospital.
The 31-year-old’s driving under the influence of alcohol had catastrophic consequences. Shortly after entering the oncoming lane, the driver crashed into another car. The car, in which an 18-year-old and two 16-year-olds were sitting, ended up in the ditch.
Prisoners were freed from car fire
Other road users managed to free the three occupants before the car caught fire. The fire service was then able to quickly bring the vehicle and the dike fire under control.
The 16-year-old died in hospital
After the accident, the seriously injured were taken to the state clinics in Hollabrunn and Mistelbach at 12:15 p.m. and to the Vienna-Meidling trauma center. The emergency medical helicopter “Christophorus 2” was also deployed. The 16-year-old from the district of Mistelbach succumbed to his serious injuries in the hospital of the district capital.
An alcohol matte test on the 31-year-old was positive. After completion of the investigation, he will be reported to the public prosecutor’s office in Korneuburg and the district administration in Mistelbach.
