In the middle of the stressful summer on the construction sites, the climate stickers will again cause traffic jams in Vienna’s morning traffic from next week. In addition to sticking, sit-ins and marches, there will be some surprise actions.
Hundreds of streets in Vienna are currently torn open, with public transport there are sometimes waiting times like in the deepest mountain valley and then this: sit-ins, slow protest marches, hands taken.
On July 10, the last generation will begin their next wave of blockades in Vienna. It starts at 8:00 AM at Schwedenplatz/Franz-Josefs-Kai. “It will be intense, we will also use creative forms of protest,” activist spokesman David Sonnenbaum announced.
With predicted temperatures of more than 30 degrees, this will especially irritate the nerves of the drivers. Not afraid of increased aggression? Sonnenbaum: “We experience constant aggression. Our participants are well trained.”
Duration: “Open Ended”
Unlike before, this wave is “open ended”, with small breaks in between. As reported, three out of four Viennese reject the cutting of arterial roads. A maximum of 20% approves of the actions, according to a survey by the IfDD Institute (1000 respondents). Only among Green voters do the stickers have more approval than disapproval.
Annoying drivers are the wrong way to achieve goals, experts say. However: Every action brings attention and donations. The activists still have “only” 30,000 euros in their account.
